The first week of Great Lent was a profound and important moment in the life of Holy Apostles Church. From Forgiveness Vespers to chrismations on the following Sunday, the parish was alive with the movement of the Holy Spirit.
As has been our custom, we celebrate as many of the services as possible. Lenten Matins was (and continues to be served) each weekday, and the Great Canon of St Andrew of Crete was sung in the evenings. Many parishioners stepped forward to read and sing their parts of the canon.
On Wednesday evening, the youth of the parish gathered to make the koliva, which was used on Friday evening after the Presanctified Liturgy. They were messy, but made a very tasty dish to serve as a treat for persevering through the first week of the Great Fast. This night also saw a full house for the Great Canon, including several visitors who were welcomed with light refreshments afterwards.
Friday night's Presanctified Liturgy was a moving night of prayer and thanksgiving to God. Again, much of the parish was present to celebrate the services of Clean Week.
