Our long awaited and newly constructed iconostasis has arrived. Being made in California, it was shipped to Syracuse where it was retrieved and brought back to the Worthington's house. There, many of the community gathered to stain and seal it over the next week. Some parishioners even come for 4 straight nights to put their love and care into this beautiful piece of art. After the iconostasis had lost that new polyurethane smell, it was brought to the church and erected in the sanctuary. There we could see the beauty that is evident in God's holy church made more evident. Some temporary iconography was hung in the appropriate places, and our little mission church took one step closer to creating a permanent worship space in the Finger Lakes region.
On Sunday, October 6th, the first Divine Liturgy in the newly adorned church was celebrated. Now many of the lifelong Orthodox parishioners and the numerous visitors who come into the church will see, we hope, a little sliver of the glory of heavenly worship, as it is reflected in the joy and hard work of the missionary parishioners of Holy Apostles Church.
Being a mission church, we are glad to have the support of the entire diocese. For many years, we have been able to worship and grow through the grace, love and donations of our diocesan brothers and sisters. Since the building of a church is the labor of this entire family, we would also like to remind you that sponsorship opportunities for the iconostasis and the iconography project still are available, though going quickly. See the brochure for ways in which you can become part of the growth that God has in store for the church in Lansing.
